Tip of the Month

Fireworks can be a stressful time for our pups. Here are some tips to help keep them calm and comfortable.

  • Sound Training: Play fireworks sounds at a low volume while giving treats and praise. Gradually increase the volume over time to desensitize your pup.
  • Dog Anxiety Vest: Use a snug garment like a ThunderShirt® to apply gentle pressure and calm your dog. Introduce the vest before the day of the fireworks.
  • Pre-Fireworks Workout: Exercise your dog with a long hike or play session during the day. A tired pup is less likely to react to fireworks.
  • Early Meals and Potty Time: Feed and take them out for potty breaks before sunset. Ensure they are comfortable and won’t need to go out during fireworks.
  • Keep Your Dog Occupied: Distract your dog with a stuffed KONG® toy or a frozen treat. Keep them busy and focused on something enjoyable.
  • Muffle the Noise: Use a white noise machine or play calming music to drown out fireworks sounds.
  • Create a Safe Zone: Find a small space where your pup feels comfortable and add their bed and favorite toys.
  • Comfort Your Dog: Sit close, pet gently, and offer reassuring words during fireworks. Show your dog that you’re there to support them.
  • Calming Supplements: Use calming treats or supplements to help relax your pup.

At Friendly Paws Pet Resort, we require quick release collars for our daycare and boarding dogs to ensure their safety during playtime. These collars feature a three-prong buckle for quick unfastening, which is helpful if dogs get tangled with each other. Ensuring the safety and well-being of your pets is our top priority at Friendly Paws, and quick release collars are integral to our safety protocol during active playtime. You can purchase these collars in the office; we have a new shipment arriving soon!

Pup of the Month!

Buddy

What we call him: Buddy (his name fits him perfectly)

His favorite thing to do at Friendly Paws: Napping in the sun

What we love most about him: That he has to announce to everyone that he has arrived
